Dell is back in the mobile gadget industry. Long after their last Pocket PC, Dell has come back with a more updated device; a smart phone. After all, it was smart phone technology that eventually made the Pocket PC obsolete. The company is definitely moving in a different direction now.

Oh, regarding the computer "going into slow motion," there's a mention of something similar in the Inspiron in this Wikipedia article. It's related to overheating and is a bad sign... they suggest that CPU damage is possible. I don't know if this explanation has anything to do with the Studio 15.

Damn, I thought the update was the solution. I sure hope my studio doesn't crap out like that again. It was a really frustrating week when it didn't work. I just thought it would go away after a reboot but started getting worried when it kept on re-appearing.
Hope you get yours fixed.

I just received a Studio 15 today and have a problem with an erratic touchpad response. The problem is most obvious if you make small circles with the cursor. About every 5 to 10 seconds, the cursor will freeze for a moment, then leap somewhere far outside your little circle. There's a thread here that talks about this:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=309852

I was on the phone with technical support and updated the BIOS with no improvement. Also installed new touchpad drivers with no improvement. Did the thing with removing the battery and holding down the power button for a minute.

This kind of behavior is subtle enough that many people won't notice... maybe they are used to jerking their pointers around (innuendo not intended) and don't notice if it behaves strangely. For me, well I do precision mousing and it is driving me CRAZY.

What's worse is that a number of people in the thread above were unable to get a fix, even after multiple visits by a service technician and replacing every major component of the laptop. One of them gave up and returned the laptop, and they forced him to pay A RESTOCKING FEE because they refused to believe there was a flaw in their hardware. I just don't have time for this, but if I return it now I will be out $200 or more, for nothing.

The problem doesn't seem to be related to Windows because it happens in exactly the same way during the diagnostic test.
